Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science The Weizmann Institute of Science announces the eleventh Prof. CHAIM LEIB PEKERIS MEMORIAL LECTURE to be delivered by Professor Efim Zelmanov University of California, San Diego Sponsored by the Arthur and Rochelle Belfer Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science The title: On Large Pro-p Groups On Wednesday, April 28, 2004, at 4:00 p.m. in the Dolfi and Lola Ebner Auditorium, on campus A reception in honor of Prof. Zelmanov will be held after the lecture Abstract I'll talk about free pro-p groups and a remarkable family of "large" pro-p groups introduced by Golod and Shafarevich. A special emphasis will be made on the linearity problem and on connections with 3-manifolds.
