The Weizmann Institute of Science Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science Computer Science Seminar Deborah Estrin University of California, Los Angeles and University of Southern California will speak on Embedding the Internet: Instrumenting the physical world Abstract: Pervasive micro-sensing and actuation offers to revolutionize the way in which we understand and construct complex physical systems: from airplane wings to plankton colonies. The capabilities for detailed physical monitoring and manipulation offer enormous opportunities for almost every scientific discipline. At the same time embedded instrumentation and control can alter the feasible granularity of engineering. This talk will highlight some of the architectural challenges posed by the massively distributed, large scale, physically-coupled, and usually untethered computing systems that are needed to realize this vision. The lecture will take place in the Lecture Hall, Room 1, Ziskind Building on Monday, June 26, 2000 at 14:30
