The Weizmann Institute of Science Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science Computer Science Seminar Paul T. Ward Paul Ward Associates, Inc. New York will speak on The Effect of Increasing Communications Bandwidth on Human Culture Abstract: For more than 150 years, technology has allowed human beings to communicate who are too far apart to sense one another directly . This has had important effects on the nature of person-to-person interaction. Today, dramatic increases in bandwidth and a convergence of other technologies have the potential to create changes that are even more profound. This will be a very informal examination of historical and contemporary observations about technology, together with some attempts at rational speculation about the future of human communication. The lecture will take place in the Lecture Hall, Room 1, Ziskind Building on Monday, January 31, 2000 at 14:30
