But my main point is not that the program of STOC/FOCS does not include interesting works, but rather that (1) not all interesting works appear in STOC/FOCS, and (2) the focus of attention in STOC/FOCS is not on the program itself (i.e., actually learning from the works, discussing them with others, etc). That is, (2) asserts that the atmosphere in STOC/FOCS is such that the actual contents of the works is lost in the surrounding atmosphere that focuses on competition.
