Opening notes for Visions of Cryptography

This webpage contains my opening notes for the Visions of Cryptography workshop. Oded

A three-day celebration of the work of Shafi Goldwasser and Silvio Micali took place at Weizmann in mid-December 2013, consisting of:

Dec 10 (TUES): Weizmann Distinguished Lectures Day, featuring talks by Boaz Barak, Irit Dinur, Johan Hastad, and Salil Vadhan, and crowned by lectures of Shafi Goldwasser and Silvio Micali (serving as the annual Amir Pnueli Lectures).

Dec 11-12 (WEND+THURS): Visions of Cryptography, a two-day workshop on theory of cryptography (by invitation).

All events took place at the Lopatie conference center, which is located on the main road of Weizmann Institute, 50 meters from the main gate (on your right after entering).

Opening note (for Wednesday morning)

Approximately 25 years ago, Silvio said that he thinks a conference/workshop should start with an elevating music - an overture of a great opera. So I decided to take a song from the greatest opera. I feel this song is most adequate for this (early) time.
