Below is an english digest of my article titled "When Human Life Counts as Nothing". My starting point is the realization of growing segments of the Jewish population in Israel that "events" like the last murderous assault on the humanitarian ship convoy to Gaza (1.6.2010) are rooted in a principled policy. The point of the article is to clarify the nature of this policy, which demonstrates disregard to human life (as long as the human is not a Jewish Zionist). I cite other demonstrations of this disregard in the last decade (from the killing of 13 Arab citizens in Oct'2000, to the assault on Lebanese civilians in the Lebanon War, and the notorious "Gaza Operation"). Although Israel never showed much respect to (non-Jewish) human life, in the past there was a feeling that Israel is ashamed of it, whereas nowadays the disregard reached a level in which it is viewed (in Israel) as reasonable and normal. I argue that the root of it all is in the distinguishing between "loyal subjects" (see below) and people that are not so; the life of the others count as nothing. I then explain that in contrast to the notions of the modern state, which views itself as an aggregate of its citizens and a mean for securing their basic rights and needs, the essence of fascism is in viewing the state as superior to the people that are viewed as its subjects. Like the Feudal state, the Fascist state vests privileges on its loyal subjects. Indeed, things that are viewed as basic unconditioned human rights in the Modern state, are viewed as privileges in the Fascist state, where also the very right to life (and not being killed) is viewed as a privilege. The discourse of loyalty-privileges [which dominates Israel's politics] is the real basis of the deep/severe discrimination against the Arab citizens of Israel, and is the actual basis of the willingness to justify whatever is claimed to be needed to serve the interests of the state. The discourse of loyalty-privileges applies also to the non-Arab people, and yields a hierarchy of "entitlements for privileges" ordered according to the loyalty of the person to the Zionist ideology and the value of service that he/she performed for it. Needless to say, climbing up this hierarchy is possible [only for jews... and] only by demonstrating loyalty and performing services. This also explains the "drag to the nationalistic right" that undergoes the entire history of the state of Israel. Thus, it is not enough to protest against various demonstrations of racial discrimination, oppression, and other state crimes. One should uncover and object the entire discourse of loyalty-privileges and promote a discourse of full citizenship and unconditional rights. We should convince most of the public that the "loyalty discourse" does not serve it, and only a discourse of citizenship and unconditional rights answers its *real* interests and needs.
