Gil Goffer

I am a President's Postdoctoral Fellow in the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of California, San Diego, hosted by Tianyi Zheng. I am also a Fulbright fellow and a Schmidt Postdoctoral Award recipient.

My research interests broadly lie in the field of geometric group theory. I study locally compact groups and their actions on the associated spaces. I am particularly curious about groups acting on combinatorial objects such as trees and other buildings, and about the differences between the theory of connected (Lie) groups and totally disconnected ones. I also study applications of group actions to computer science, e.g., to the construction of high dimensional expanders. Beside math, I play classical piano music, I hold a certified tour guide certificate, and I have (a supporting husband and) three kids.
