Notes for the Celebration of the work of Shafi Goldwasser and Silvio Micali

This webpage contains my notes for the Visions of Cryptography workshop. Oded
A three-day celebration of the work of Shafi Goldwasser and Silvio Micali took place at Weizmann in mid-December 2013, consisting of: All events took place at the Lopatie conference center, which is located on the main road of Weizmann Institute, 50 meters from the main gate (on your right after entering).
The program of both events appears HERE

Actual note made on Thursday morning

Last evening, when Tal (Rabin) rounded up Shafi's and Silvio's former students, I felt left out. I am aware that (most of) you think of me as Shafi's and Silvio's peer, and I guess that in some sense (e.g., chronological) I am, but in a deeper sense I am actually their student.

Originally planned notes

My original plan was to use music and dance for my notes. My impression was that the first ``instalation'' was not well received, so I decided to skip the others.

Opening note (for Wednesday morning)

Approximately 25 years ago, Silvio said that he thinks a conference/workshop should start with an elevating music - an overture of a great opera. So I decided to take a song from the greatest opera. I feel this song is most adequate for this (early) time.

Brunnhilde's Awakening

A departure (from Silvio) note (for Wednesday evening)

I wish to apologize for Silvio's having to leave tonight, which is mostly my fault: This is caused by a mismatch of various commitments, which was too late to fix. Hence, the circumstances of Silvio's departure are quite different than those of Lohengrin's.

A dance for Shafi (for Thursday)

Tokyo Ballet performs Strawinsky's Rite of Spring.
