4.0 License Update
This version should be downloaded by people who have already installed the version on the book's CD but who do not yet have a license number. Among other things, it has been adapted to accommodate a new license generation algorithm. For versions below 4.6.0.

Problems and fixes for running Play-Engine on windows 7 or Vista (added on June 2016)

  1. Problem: When running Play-Engine for the first time on Vista or Windows 7, you get an error message: "Unexpected error, quitting".
Fix: Right click the PlayInEngine.exe file in the installation folder and choose "Run as administrator" (even if you're logged in as an administrator). The next time you run Play-Engine you can run it as usual.
  2. Problem: When running the NetPhone sample which is provided with the PlayEngine, the text boxes appear with a black background.
    Fix: Do the following:
    • Replace the PhoneCtrl.ocx and NetPhoneLib.dll files in your samples folder with the files attached here NetPhone update
    • Register PhoneCtrl.ocx file by writing in the command line "regsvr32" following the full path of the file, e.g "regsvr32 C:\Program Files (x86)\Play-Engine\Samples\NetPhone\PhoneCtrl.ocx"
    • Register NetPhoneLib.dll the same way
Note: To run the regsvr32 command you need to login as administrator.

  3. Problem: GUIEdit Add-In or FuncEdit Add-In are missing from the Available Add-Ins list in Visual Basic.
Fix: Register GUIEditAddIn.dll file by writing in the command line "regsvr32" following the full path of the file, e.g "regsvr32 C:\Program Files (x86)\Play-Engine\GUIEdit\GUIEditAddIn.dll". Register FuncEditAddIn.dll the same way.
  4. Note: To run the regsvr32 command you need to login as administrator.
