Since its establishment in 1934 in Rehovot, Israel, the Weizmann Institute of Science has grown into one of the world’s leading multidisciplinary research institutions. With a 2,700-strong scientific community in a garden-like 280-acre campus, it fulfills Dr. Chaim Weizmann’s vision that it be a place of peace, collaboration, and scientific excellence. Its discoveries have improved the everyday quality of life of millions of people worldwide.
Rehovot, one of the first communities founded in the modern State of Israel, is located in the center of the country. It is conveniently located about 20 kilometers south of Tel Aviv. The city has a population of 114,000 people and is known as the City of Science and Culture. It is also known as Israel's citrus capital and the city emblem displays a microscope, book and orange. The city is home to a number of historical buildings including a few examples of Bauhaus architecture. Rehovot is one of those cities that seem to always have flowers in bloom. The foliage is well established with mature trees lining the streets and a sense of lushness surrounds you as you walk through the city. Herzl, the city's main street, is lined with orange trees. If you are not smelling the fragrant orange blossoms, you are probably enjoying the trees bearing fruit.
